Coconuts used to be a demon , or at the very least an indulgence , a fluffy-cake topping , a gooey candy-bar filling and the second best ingredient in a poolside drink ! For years the biggest coconut based troublemaker was it ' s oil , which is loaded with saturated fat - even more than butter . But in the last few years , there ' s been a great deal of rethinking about the coconut and it ' s many edible parts with this humble fruit not just regarded as a superfood but a " Miracle Superfood "
The juice found in the middle of a cracked coconut is now marketed as hydrating fluid . It has less sugar than fruit juices and more minerals such as potassium , sodium , magnesium and calcium . These properties are great as a post-workout drink .
This is becoming more and more popular , used in baking and roasting it has a similar nutritional profile to butter in that it has a high saturated fat content which is far less harmful to health than initially thought . Coconut oil also helps to hydrate skin and reinforce its natural defensive barrier to better retain moisture .
