Your smartphone currently uses 4G or LTE, but the next telecommunication standard is just around the corner. 5th generation mobile networks, called 5G for short, are currently in development. 5G will be a faster, more intelligent way of communication that also results in surprising benefits like lower battery consumption.
5G networks will accomplish all this by means of cellular densification, which is a way of increasing network capacity by adding more cell sites. The coverage will be managed by macro cells and small cells, the latter of which will manage the network in urban areas and neighborhoods.
