Insight Data and Purplex Marketing, almost
350 leaders, 23 big name sponsors and 25
expert and keynote speakers from across the
industry descended on Edgbaston Stadium
and Conference Centre.
And a huge 98% of them said that they
would attend again thanks in a poll conducted
after at the end of the day.
Glazing Summit founder, and Insight Data
and Purplex CEO, Andrew Scott said: “We
really took things up a notch this year and it’s
clear that industry leaders and CEO’s want a
space to come together to learn, share ideas,
thoughts and opinions.
“We want the Glazing Summit to lead
the way and provide that platform for the
industry, which is why we have decided to
make it an annual event.”
It kicked off with Insight Data’s Operation’s
Director Jade Greenhow providing a snapshot
on the fenestration industry based on Insight
Data’s new window industry report.
The first debate of the day saw FENSA’s
Chris Beedel; Raynaers’ John McComb,
Eurocell’s John Arkley and MD of Unique
Window Solutions’ Sunil Patel discuss whether
the sector is doing enough around recycling
and the message was clear – the industry needs
to be better when it comes to educating the
general public about sustainability and what
we are doing.
This debate was also the first to experience
Slido, an audience interaction app that
allowed attendees to ask questions to the
panels during the debates and take part in
polls throughout the day.
Neil Parker, director of RBS Bank
and a leading expert on UK and global
macroeconomics, then took to the stage to
provide some long-term optimism for the
industry, despite the short-term uncertainty
of Brexit.

Andrew Scott then revealed why keeping
your customer at the centre of your marketing
strategy will help drive growth despite the
challenges ahead.
Regulations, accreditations and rogue
traders were then tackled in the second debate
by the GGF’s Anda Gregory and Adrian
Blaydon, BSI’s Mark Barsby and Fenestrology’s
Andy Clegg.
The future of the industry and why it will
be the consumer that drives smart tech going
forward was then discussed by Liniar’s Martin
Thurley, Pilkington’s Tony Smith, Johan
Ambulm from Assa Abloy and Inwido’s Mark
Spanberg.
After lunch, motivational business speaker
Adrian Webster provided a high-octane half
hour on how inspirational leadership and
innovative thinking can help build a world-
class business.
An interesting debate on barriers to growth
and tackling the skills shortage was then
had by Edgetech’s Chris Alderson, Dribuld’s
Melissa Barber, Shelforce’s Howard Trotter
and the BFRC’s Lis Clarke, before the day
ended with a debate on industry consolidation
with County Windows’ Peter Hall,
ThinCats’ Damon Walford, PCP Corporate
Restructuring’s Sam Talby and Safestyle’s
martin Troughton.
A GOLD MEDAL EVENING
With the Glazing Summit leading way,
it was apt that one of Great Britain’s most
successful athletes made an appearance at this
year’s Leaders Dinner.
The Edgbaston Banqueting Suite provided
the perfect backdrop for former Olympic
400metre runner and World Championship
gold medallist Roger Black MBE.
He provided a hugely motivational
after-dinner speech on performing under
pressure and attainable personal development.
Delegates were then able to have a look at his
gold medal.
The VIP Leaders Dinner was the perfect
way to round off a successful Glazing Summit
and brought together around 250 of the
industry’s most influential business owners,
directors and managers for a drinks reception
and three-course meal
“The feedback from delegates and sponsors
stated how much they enjoyed the Leaders
Dinner,” remarked Andrew.
“It was a delight to have Roger Black as
our after-dinner speaker and he provided a
hugely interesting insight into motivation by
combining his experience both on and off the
track.”
