TOP UP YOUR CPD POINTS
»»THE VEKA UK GROUP IS
offering architects, specifiers, contractors
and consultants the chance to further
their understanding of PVCu and its use
in fenestration, while simultaneously
earning points towards their Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) – free of
charge.
Richard Garland, head of commercial
sales for The VEKA UK Group explained:
“Among the topics covered in the seminars
will be commonly held misconceptions
surrounding PVCu - particularly in
comparison to its counterparts - timber and
aluminium.
“The free sessions will run throughout the
country, and interested architects, specifiers,
contractors and consultants are invited to
register their interest as soon as possible.
“We will be conducting seminars at
locations across the UK. We also welcome
enquiries from representatives who wish to
request a dedicated session for themselves
and their team, and are happy to attend at
their premises to deliver the training.
“This represents the first of several CPD
offerings that The VEKA UK Group will
be introducing over the coming months,
and we’re excited to share our knowledge,
make connections throughout the industry,
and continue our proactive role within the
fenestration community.”

CYCLING CHALLENGE RAISES RECORD FUNDS
»»GM FUNDRAISING’S
Border2Border cycling challenge
held in June this year has
raised record funds for Hope
House Children’s Hospice’s
by beating all other previous
events organised over the last 20
years.
The team of 24 riders and
support crew cycled from Canada
to Mexico over 11 days covering
2,111 miles and 94,600ft of
climbing, with 864,000 calories
burned and 4,536,000 peddles
turned (cadence).
“All funds and pledges have
now been collected and we are
absolutely delighted to announce
that the Border2Border challenge
has raised a phenomenal
£195,766.92,” said Gary
Morton, chairman of GM
Fundraising and B2B team
member.
“All of this has come from
the hard work of everyone that
took part in the challenge and
of course, the support of our
amazing industry. All the money
raised goes directly to Hope
House Children’s Hospices.”
Andy Goldsmith, chief
executive of Hope House added:
“The support we receive from
GM Fundraising is critical.
Hope House is more than just
a hospice. It’s a service and by
providing support to children
with life-limiting illnesses and
their families, our aim is to
improve their quality of life in
any way possible.”
Energy management achievement
»»REHAU HAS ACHIEVED
the ISO 50001 Energy
Management Certificate for all
of its UK manufacturing and
warehousing facilities.
This is a key element in the
fenestration and renewables
specialist’s ambitious energy
policy which is focused both
on reducing energy losses and
using and producing energy
efficiently. It extends not just to
the company’s manufacturing
processes but to the design
and application of REHAU’s
products and to its buildings,
infrastructure, purchasing
policies, machinery and
energy.
The UK plants covered by
the ISO 50001 certification
are in Blaenau and Amlwch in
North Wales, where REHAU
produces its PVCu window and
door systems and district heating
pipework.
REHAU has long stated
its commitment to continual
improvement in terms of its
environmental performance. It
has in 2016 announced a switch
to sourcing 100% renewable
electricity and published an
in-depth sustainability report
focusing on the positive
transformation the company
has undergone over the past two
years.
In achieving ISO 50001,
REHAU now complies with the
requirements of the government’s
mandatory energy assessment
and energy saving identification
scheme ESOS (Energy Savings
Opportunity Scheme).
