Salford flat refurbishments
feature illbruck sealant
»»One of the North-west’s
biggest registered social landlords is currently
involved in a scheme to improve both the
appearance and the energy performance of
its high rise properties, where the façade
contractor has switched to employing a
system from illbruck to seal all of the window
openings.
Rodney Street, Manchester is the latest
location for one of Salix Homes’ HMOs to
undergo a full exterior refurbishment, with
HT Forrest being the main contractor, and
locally based Astley Facades carrying out
the installation of new rainscreen cladding,
together with high performance PVCu
windows.
During an earlier contract in the area,
Astley Facades was successful in switching the
specification for the sealant system to illbuck’s
ME501 Duo HD, in combination with
SP525.
Michael Hall, Project Manager for Astley
Facades, said: “On the previous site we were
using a different EPDM when I came across
the illbruck product, which is lighter and
better quality, as well as cheaper.”
As with all of illbruck’s construction
sealants, Duo HD and SP525 comply with
all relevant standards and are fully tested to
ensure their suitability in use for a wide range
of applications.

Hinge Benefits
»»Christopher Burrows, Head
of Sales, Avocet Hardware, talks economics and
hinges.
“According to recent reports, the UK’s
economy will grow faster than any of the other
G7 Nations over the remainder of the year and
will soon be back to its pre-recession size.
“What this means to Avocet is that, it is
once again features and benefits of a product
that make it stand out, as opposed to price.
This features and benefits led approach, was
clearly in evidence when we launched Affinity
hinge, back in 2010.
“At the time we focused strongly on
innovative design, to make it quicker and

simpler to fabricate and install, but when
the recession hit all of this went out of the
window and buying decisions became price
driven.
“Its important to remember that products
such as these were designed not to be the
cheapest, but the best – a message that is
already sinking in judging by the significant
increase in sales of the Affinity hinge we’ve
seen since the start of 2014.”
