Support for children’s charity cycle riders
»»TOTAL GLASS SUPPORTED
a fund-raising cycle ride across
Wales in aid of The Movement
Centre, a charity that provides
specialised physiotherapy for
children with cerebral palsy.
The Liverpool-based PVCu and
aluminium fabricator was a shirt
sponsor for the two-day ‘Peddling
for Jac’ cycle ride, organised by
long-standing customer Mark
Blackwell, Director of Angleseybased DU Construction Ltd.
The 15-strong team of riders
and support drivers completed
the 135-mile ride safely from
Gobowen Hospital in North
Wales to Cardiff over the weekend
of April 8 to 10 2016. They raised
a total of nearly £20,000, nearly
double their original target.
It was the fifth charity bike
ride for Mark who is raising
money for treatment to help
his three-year-old godson Jac
walk unaided and live a normal
active life.
Mark says, “We are delighted
that Total Glass has supported
us and its gesture is very much
appreciated. Thanks to everyone
who has donated so generously;
they have helped us to really
smash our original target.”
Phill Cresswell, Total Glass
Sales and Marketing Manager,
commented, “Where possible, we
aim to support community and
charity projects so we were only
too happy to help.”

PLASTICS EDUCATION WEBSITE LAUNCHED
»»THE BRITISH PLASTICS
Federation (BPF) has launched a plastics
education website, Polymer Zone, which is
targeted at school children and teachers.
The BPF Skills and Education Committee
decided that, in order to combat the current
skills gap, more needed to be done to improve
the perception of plastics in schools, as well as
to encourage more young people to enter into
a manufacturing career within the Plastics
Industry.
‘Polymer Zone’ serves as an educational
hub for a variety of useful plastics resources
including education kits that can be
used in schools, over 50 engaging videos
about plastic as a material, activities and
experiments suitable for classroom use as well
as a series of 12 downloadable PowerPoint
presentations provided by PlasticsEurope,
that can be viewed directly on the site as well
as downloaded and tailored for individual
teaching use.
The BPF have worked closely with an
educational specialist to create a lesson
plan aimed at Key Stage 3 children (pupils
aged between 11 and 14) studying Design
and Technology. The lesson plan, which is
curriculum linked, allows children to match
plastic products with the processes used to
create them. Support material is available to
download free of charge.

PROFINE DELIGHTS FENSTERBAU CROWDS
»»PROFINE GROUP WAS
again the largest exhibitor at
Fensterbau, hosting over 4,000
business partners from all over
the world at the trade show,
which itself had 110,581 visitors
in just four days - a record
number.
Building on its success at
Fensterbau in 2014, this year
under the KBE, Kömmerling and
Trocal brands, Profine launched
a new 88mm system with a
common platform across all three
brands.
This same strategy has worked
well for the group with the
common 76mm platform, which
has been further developed with
the launch of the PremiDoor
76 lift and slide door that offers
slimmer front to back dimensions
of 179mm.
The tilt and turn variant of
System 76 also received further
investment with the new AluClip
Zero variant, making for a range
of exterior aluminium cladding
variants. The system can achieve
Passivhaus standards of thermal
performance using a triple glazed
unit and the pioneering prefoamed proEnergyTec profiles.
But for those UK visitors on
the Profine stand, it was not
just about product. The group
entertained customers, staff and
business partners with food and
the extravaganza people have
come to expect from the German
systems giant and they weren’t
disappointed. The Thursday night
concluded just before midnight,
continuing the theme of party
night at Fensterbau.
