INDUSTRYNEWS
Are you up to the challenge?
The Directors of Clearview Group are keen golfers and have thrown down a golf
challenge to other companies in the industry, with a chance to win a great prize.
»»DIRECTORS STEVE SIDEBOTTOM
and Rob Exley are inviting competitors to play
a four-ball at a venue of their choice or take a
trip to the Clearview home course, Silkstone
Golf Club in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, to put
their golfing skills to the test.
Steve said, “Every month we will cover the
matches in both Clearview and Pro Installer
magazines and if you beat us then we add a
full page for your company at no cost. What
have you got to lose?”
The idea came about following a Clearview
golf challenge at Worksop Golf Club,
Nottinghamshire. Steve and Rob took on
Chris Bailey and Dave Stockwell from
Business Micros, the company that provides
world class software solutions for the window
and door industry. The four golfers met for
a match play competition at Worksop,
home course of golf legend, Lee
Westwood.
Lee is one of the few golfers
who has won tournaments on
five continents and in 2010 he
became the world number one
golfer, ending the reign of Tiger
Woods.
On the day of the Clearview competition,
the match teed off at 10.30am with Business
Micros receiving seven shots from Clearview.
Conditions were tricky including sun, rain
and wind, with the course layout featuring
tight fairways and dog legs.
A par at the first got Clearview ahead but
this was quickly overhauled as Business Micros
went two up after seven holes.
Clearview pegged them back to all square
then moved ahead after a run of pars and a
birdie. Clearview was now two up with four
to play, surely only a matter of time? Chris
and Dave then moved into overdrive with
pars at 15 and 16, so all to play for over the
final two holes. The 17th was parred by Rob
for Clearview leaving Dave a four-footer for a
half, it lipped out so Clearview was dormie.
The final hole was a tricky par 3, 170 yards.
Both Business Micros’ tee shots were left of
the green, while Clearview tee shots were on
the green but a long way from the hole. Chris
played a nice chip to five feet, Steve putted up
BUSINESS MICROS
to three feet. Could Chris hole
the putt to put the pressure
on? No, unfortunately it missed.
Steve knocked in the par putt and
the final result was two up to Clearview.
A great game going to the final green in a
smattering of hailstones. Then to the 19th for
post match discussion and beverages. Steve
said, “Our thanks to Business Micros for their
company and competitiveness, a return match
at Silkstone Golf Club to be advised.”
Dave Stockwell from Business Micros said,
“Chris and myself were excited to be playing
a prestigious course while under pressure
to perform in this challenge match with
Clearview. The game started well enough
and from our perspective we were just about
holding our own. It all came down to the final
two holes.
“All in all a very enjoyable day with great
company and hopefully something that can
become a regular fixture.”

Business Micros began in the IT
industry in 1979 and concentrated its
energies on developing market leading
software for all levels of manufacturer.
Initially supplying to the a luminium
market, the company created a
reputation for quality of product,
service and price. It continued to adapt
through the 1980s and 1990s as PVCu
began to take market share, creating
more options for manufacturers and
incorporating greater flexibility into the
Business Micros product range. During
this period the company saw rapid
growth and became firmly established
as a software house.
The real renaissance came in
recent years with the ground-breaking
Evolution software and EvoNET
tracking and management systems.
With three locations across the
UK, head office in Dumfriesshire, and
over 30 employees, Business Micros’
investment in the industry pays off year
after year.
Internationally, the business is now
