RECORD-BREAKING RECYCLING IN 2018
» » EUROCELL PLC, THE UK’S
leading manufacturer, distributor
and recycler of PVC-U window,
door, conservatory and roofline
systems, has announced it
processed a record number of
post-consumer window profiles
in 2018, recycling in excess of
1.2million frames.
Having invested c£10m over
the past decade in increasing its
recycling facilities, the company
exceeded its 2017 inputs of
post-consumer material by over
15%. As a result, Eurocell was
able to produce 12,500 tonnes
of products made from recycled
material at its Midlands- based
plant during 2018.
When windows reach the end
of their life, they are shredded,
granulated and micronized,
Eurocell then extrudes new profiles.
This process can be repeated up to
ten times using the same material,
giving recycled PVC-U windows a
lifespan of up to 350 years.
Chris Coxon, Head of
Marketing at Eurocell, said:
“With the UK starting to run
out of landfill space and 32%
of landfill coming from the
construction sector, we are proud
of the part we are playing in
helping to improve the sector’s
sustainability record. As 2019 gets
underway we are looking forward
to processing even more post-
consumer profiles for recycling
and hope to see a significant
increase on last year’s impressive
figures.”

LZR® triggers ‘initial’ activation
» » A NEW COMBINED
activation and safety sensor
for special door and window
requirements is being launched
by GEZE UK. The GEZE laser
scanner LZR® can be used in
environments that demand
a wider range than standard
activation and safety sensors.
In these cases, the LZR® range
can be used to boost their activation
using a four-laser light curtain
which provides three-dimensional
protection of the monitored
area. The laser scanner LZR® also
incorporates a ‘time-of-flight’
measurement system which make
them very reliable as they are not
affected by background reflection.
The laser scanner LZR® is
considered ideal for retro-fitting
to existing systems and their
installation above doorways
eliminates the risk of them being
damaged by collision. The P220
version is produced in black,
while the P110 and the 1100
come in both black and white. Said Andy Howland, director of
sales and marketing for GEZE UK:
“The laser scanner LZR will provide
real benefits to environments that
have particular needs in activating
doors or safety requirements.
“The range and effectiveness
are truly impressive, bringing cost
savings to a development or retrofit
by eliminating the need for pressure
activated devices that have to be
fitted at ground level.”
built to SBD crime prevention

year – a huge benefit to the Police Service when policing resources
are under intense pressure and
demand.

SECURING THE FUTURE
» » SENIOR LECTURER IN
Policing at Christ Church
University, Canterbury, Richard
Honess, has spoken about the
importance of police officers and
representatives of Police Service,
such as Secured by Design (SBD),
taking time out to talk to students
studying for a degree in policing.
He said undergraduates
working toward a BSc in Policing
were the recruits of the future
who may be going on to work
alongside experienced officers
on the front-line in towns, cities
and rural communities to keep
residents safe.
Richard was speaking after a
presentation to first-year policing
students, which highlighted
the importance of Designing
Out Crime Officers, who are
attached to Police Forces around
the country, who work with
architects, developers and local
authority planners to design out
crime at the planning stage – long
before construction begins.
