Shaking
up the
industry
CORGI Fenestration
Scheme Limited has
launched into the multi-
billion pound fenestration
sector – a move that
some believe will shake
up the industry.
» » A FULLY LICENCED BUSINESS
working with CORGI Services, CORGI
Fenestration will bring all the known and
associated attributes of the CORGI brand to
the sector.
Chris Mayne will be chief executive
officer and Jacqueline Crawford will be
chief operating officer. Chris is well-known
throughout the fenestration industry and
has worked at some of its industry bodies
and companies including FENSA, Bowater
Windows Group, and Staybrite Windows &
Conservatories.
Qualified engineer Jacqueline has worked
for some of the main certification schemes
including NICEIC, BSI and FENSA. She was
chair of the Competent Person Forum during
the introduction of Part P of the Building
Regulations.
Most people associate CORGI - founded
in 1970 - with gas safety, but it has come
a long way since then. The CORGI brand
now delivers products and services that range
across the heating, plumbing and renewables
industry and continues to deliver an ethos
of trust, reliability and expertise. This is
through its insistence that CORGI registered
companies and individuals adhere to a strict
code of conduct.
In 2016, CORGI Services released the
results of its latest independently conducted
consumer survey. It showed that as a brand
with attributes that consumers understood
and respected, CORGI was by a considerable
distance the most recognised, with 74% of
consumers putting it first on their list.
Speaking about the launch Chris

commented: “This is a hugely exciting time
for our new venture, and we hope for the
industry. CORGI Fenestration is suited to all
levels of the supply chain – systems houses,
fabricators, and installers.
“Our aim is to support them to win more
home improvement business for our industry
based on a customer perception that as
an industry we will deliver improvements
reliably, safely, with the latest knowledge
at our fingertips coupled to experience and
expertise”.
‘so important for the
fenestration industry’
Jacqueline added: “We are delighted
that CORGI shares our vision for a new
approach to the fenestration industry. We
are equally delighted as a part of bringing
this opportunity to fruition to have formed a
collaborative working relationship with GQA
Qualifications, the industry’s only qualification
and awarding body, to underpin our approach
that qualification of operatives is the bedrock
for long term success.
“We have formed CORGI Fenestration as a
fully licensed business with exclusive use of the
CORGI brand in the fenestration industry”.
Caitriona Deakin, chief executive officer
of CORGI Services, welcomed CORGI
Fenestration and said: “CORGI has continued
to look at other industries where delivering
a service to the homeowner in a trusted and
reliable way is a key element of the route to
market.
“We have had many approaches over the
years, and turned down many potential
opportunities, but when we met with Chris
Mayne and Jacqueline Crawford it became
clear that through their knowledge of the
fenestration industry and their approach to
business that we had a meeting of minds
about how service should be delivered.
“Their ethos is clearly the same as our
own - wanting all tradespeople involved in
the supply chain to be suitably and formally
trained and qualified to do the jobs they
are required to do in order to deliver a truly
reliable service to the consumer.
“CORGI Fenestration is entirely
complementary to other CORGI licences
which are active in the building services sector
such as heating and plumbing.”
Mick Clayton, chief executive of GQA,
said: “I think that our industry has a great
many very experienced people who deliver
great products and services, but there are
gaps.
“There is no automatic update mechanism
for our industry’s people to learn about new
products, new regulations or new legislation
– and away from existing people there is little
o r no process to attract new young recruits
to our industry. This especially is a massive
problem, and it is why in my opinion this
new and exciting association with such a
recognised and trusted brand is so important
for the fenestration industry.”
