RETURNS TO FIT
GM Fundraising
to Honour WW1
Centenary
Following last year’s successful GM
Fundraising Hope 66 charity cycle
ride across America, the team has
chosen to undertake ‘The Poppy
Ride’ to mark the Centenary of
World War 1 later this year.
To avoid ‘donor fatigue’, just
a single headline sponsor is
being sought for the underlying
support costs and each rider
will pay a donation fee to take
part and cover their individual
accommodation and subsistence
costs. The combined fees will be
presented to the Royal British
Legion.
Gary Morton commented,
“Last year the glazing industry
helped us to raise over £210,000
for Hope House Children’s
Hospices. Though this remains
our focus, we could not let
this important Centenary pass
without a GM Fundraising
tribute to the sacrifice of our
countrymen.”
‘The Poppy Ride’ will begin
at The National Memorial
Arboretum and head for
Folkestone with a wreath laying
ceremony at the Whitehall
Cenotaph en route. Once across
the Channel, riders will cycle
from Calais to Arras before
spending the following day on a
circuit of the Somme battlefield
memorials, concluding in a
Service of Remembrance at the
Faubourg-d’Amiens Cemetery around 350 miles.
One of the first visitors to
register for this year’s FIT
show was David Thornton,
MD of The Window Company
(Contracts), a specialist
commercial window installer
based in Chelmsford.
Having attended for a day
last year, David says that he is
extending his stay to two days this
time to make the most of all that
the event has on offer:
“If I’m taking time out of the
office I need to make sure that
it’s really worthwhile. I’m already
putting together a plan of action
for the FIT show to make sure
that I see all of the relevant new
products on offer and meet as
many new and existing suppliers
as possible.
“I’ll also be looking to network
with suppliers and new trade
partners who can help us to
guarantee vital continuity of supply
for some of our biggest projects,
and I’ve already reserved a table in
the new FIT restaurant with a view
to meeting customers over lunch.
For us, the FIT show is a great
forum at which to do business and
to see and touch new innovations
which normally we would only see
in the trade magazines or when
sales reps visit.
“We are confident that we
can make the show work for
us and get a real return on our
investment in time and travel.”
The FIT Show will take place in
Telford in June.
