Heritage

In Keeping With Tradition

With over 9,800 conservation areas in the UK and over 10 % of properties falling within the listed building scope, it is important companies find the right solutions when replacing windows and doors in the heritage sector.

In most cases with listed buildings and conservation areas, the original glazing is within timber frames and often in vertical sliding sash design.

Though timber replacements are a great option, PVC-u windows in heritage properties can also meet local and national regulatory requirements. PVC-u windows can offer an excellent balance of traditional styling with the same character and appearance, but with greater functionality, durability, practicality and affordability.
Progressive PVC-u window companies can overcome any local council( building control and conservation departments) restrictions by being innovative, making and installing products that both comply and retain the traditional window design and look.
When installing PVC-u windows and doors in heritage buildings, a critical factor is ventilation. The Building Regulations, Approved Document F( means of ventilation) changed in June 2022, thus making it compulsory for companies replacing existing windows and doors, to meet new ventilation requirements.
With installation of mechanical ventilation being expensive, inconvenient and time consuming( as ducting would need to be installed), the most practical and affordable way to achieve compliance is to install trickle vents to window and door profiles or frames.
With homeowners looking for a perfect finish to maintain the traditional look, getting the right ventilation solution is now vital for any window and door installer operating in the heritage sector.
The Link Vent
Glazpart( the leading glazing components manufacturer) has one of the best trickle ventilation solutions with its award-winning Link Vent range which comes in sizes 5000, 4000 and 2500 EQA, all designed to fully comply with Building Regulations.
With smart design, simple and userfriendly for both opening and closing- the Link Vent’ s innovative and flexible closing action allows the closure plate to be positioned so that it reduces draughts by directing air away from occupants. The Link Vent design eliminates the need for end caps whilst the clip fix design( Pawl’ s) allows for a fast, easy vent installation.
To ensure a seamless finish to the façade, Link Vents can be camouflaged in window profiles in over 40 moulded system house colours, with finishes to also match embossed and woodgrain patterned foils.
Dean Bradley, Glazpart Sales Director expands on Glazpart’ s capability to match colours.
“ Glazpart is an approved colour paint sprayer for many paint systems developed for application onto plastic. The spray systems are special coatings designed to paint PVC-u and other hard plastic such as ABS, polycarbonate and acrylic where the systems form a molecular cross bond with the plastic surface. In
addition, we have a specialist colour matching service that can match non-standard colours and supplied colour samples.”
In 2024, Glazpart made their Link Vent premium finish ranges available in handy packs of either 10 canopies or internal vents to help companies only buy the stock they need and add more value, both in terms of revenue and kerb appeal for homeowners.
The premium finishes available in the new handy sized packs are the Premium Woodgrain range, Premium Aqua Foiled range, Premium Sprayed Colours, Super Matt Finishes.
Dean Bradley, commented,“ Many companies operating in the heritage sector, often only require Link Vents with premium finishes for just a few jobs a year. So rather than tie up stock, space and cash in excess stock, our“ 10 packs” mean that companies can order almost per job – if you work on the average house have 10 windows. It means they will not need to carry large stocks of Link Vent- ideal for fabricators who only need premium finishes occasionally.”
