2025 marks five years since Sheerline launched the Classic slim beadless window – our first aluminium system . While our product range has grown since then , our core philosophy has stayed the same ; deliver innovative products , exceptional customer service , and operate transparently .
Our vision was always to build a highly vertically integrated sustainable UK manufacturing business , and as we enter our fifth year , we ’ re building on the success we ’ ve achieved with our partners and looking ahead . In this article , we ’ ll share how it all started and some of our expansion plans .
SOLID FOUNDATIONS : BUILDING FROM THE GROUND UP
Sheerline was developed as the antidote to a stagnating aluminium sector . Homeowners were often supplied a mish mash of products from different brands , in mismatched styles . Installers and fabricators had to cope with wedge gasketing , old fashioned beads , and poor thermal performance .
The solution seemed obvious . A new aluminium extrusion company ( Garnalex ) with its own innovative window and door brand ( Sheerline ) that offered products built around a shared platform , which looked good , worked together perfectly , and delivered simple Part L compliance .
It was key the products were genuinely fabricator and fitter friendly . Sheerline ’ s management and design teams have practical backgrounds , so understand the difference between an overly complicated design that makes sense on paper , with one that works in a busy production setting .
While Garnalex was formed in 2018 , it was built on a wealth of manufacturing and fenestration experience coupled with my dad ’ s ( Roger Hartshorn ’ s ) business acumen . He ’ d previously started and grown Eurocell and Liniar – two of the UK ’ s most respected PVC-u window companies .
INNOVATION : IT ’ S CONSTANTLY EVOLVING , AND SO ARE WE
We ’ ve remained focused on product development and innovation – creating solutions that add real value and make our customers ’ lives easier . We now offer six different window or door ‘ systems ’ that all use common cills , jointers , and other components .
Every product has achieved PAS24 and Secured by Design ( SBD ) approval , highlighting our commitment to security . We ’ ve also gained approvals from QUALICOAT and Axalta , amongst others , for our in-house powder-coating facility , and we now offer woodgrain foiling and profile bending .
Last year we were named Aluminium Systems Company of the Year at the NFAs , Best Modern Aluminium Extrusion Company by SME UK Enterprise , and Garnalex featured on the Oresa Growth Index top ten .
