Going the extra mile for customers and northern communities
Morley Glass , the UK ’ s largest manufacturer of bespoke ScreenLine ® integral blinds is proud to call Yorkshire its home and , through its continuous growth over more than 20 years , make its contribution to the region ’ s reputation for manufacturing excellence . The values that underpin the business , however , not only contribute to its long term commercial success , but also ensure it leaves a legacy of environmental and social improvement for the benefit of communities across the county .
Throughout 2024 , Morley Glass continued to develop its sustainability strategy , ensuring that it is doing more than ever to reduce waste and provide more financial support to charities , groups and individuals who are working to improve their local area . That has gone hand-in-hand with the launch of innovative new products and a Registered Trade Installer scheme that offers even more benefits to Morley Glass customers .
Surpassing key milestones in IGU recycling
The company ’ s post-consumer glass recycling initiative , in which it collects endof-life IGUs ( insulating glass units ) from its customers to be crushed into cullet for the manufacture of new building glass , is one of the most important aspects to its operations today due to the wide ranging benefits this delivers . For Morley Glass customers , the IGU recycling scheme helps them reduce their landfill waste costs and improve their sustainability credentials , and that has a benefit to their bottom line .
But the scheme delivers far-reaching benefits to the glass industry and UK as a whole resulting from raw materials and energy savings . In October 2024 , the volume of cullet produced since the scheme was launched just over two years ago passed the 3,000 bags mark , meaning that the scheme has saved the need for over 2,500 tonnes of virgin raw materials – primarily sand – and cut CO2 emissions in the glass manufacturing process by around 2,000 tonnes .
The scheme has gone from strength-tostrength as more integral blind installers get on board and change how they dispose of their post-consumer IGUs . And through their actions they enable Morley Glass to support communities across Yorkshire and beyond .
Turning waste into life-changing funds
All the money raised by generating cullet goes into the Morley Glass GreenVision fund . This provides one-off grants to good causes dedicated to social and environmental improvement , and to date these have ranged from school vegetable garden projects and ‘ village in bloom ’ groups to Cash for Kids projects and CATCH , an award-winning community project which provides facilities and support to help young people who live in disadvantaged areas to thrive .
According to the latest figures , more than 180 grants have been awarded , and that will grow further in 2025 as Morley Glass increases the amount of cullet in generates . The amount of money in the GreenVision fund has also been boosted recently through the latest development in the company ’ s sustainability strategy .
This involves the re-use of the steel drums in which Morley Glass receives its sealant for the manufacture of its integral blind units . Until recently , these were sent for recycling due to steel being easy to recycle , but whilst this was preferable to sending the drums to landfill , there was still a carbon cost associated with this process . Re-using products is , therefore , a more sustainable way of treating waste materials . To make this a reality , Morley Glass has teamed up with a waste management specialist who is able to collect the steel drums , and recondition them so they can
