Mighton shows why its AviaSmart is really smart window and door hardware
» IN TECH TERMS MIGHTON ’ S AviaSmart window and door and home security products may now be regarded as well-established . On the market since 2019 when the AviaSmart Doorlock was launched at the influential CES / Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas , AviaSmart now comprises a range of related , integrated products for the home .
Crucially however , as emphasised at the recent FIT Show , AviaSmart products are distinguished from any other smart hardware products being offered to the window and door industry by two key characteristics : AviaSmart is Apple HomeKit approved which means the products offer class-leading connectivity and security ; and that every product in the AviaSmart range may be easily installed by any homeowner , and subscription free . All products work out of the box and will continue to do so , simply by downloading a free app .
Mike Derham , Chairman of Mighton Products , which is also a leading supplier of traditional hardware for box sash windows , says that a key standard during the development of each product in the AviaSmart range , was that despite the technology , they should be fundamentally simple to install and operate : “ The most successful technology is always the simplest to use . And with the market for smart hardware still relatively untapped , we believe that complexity and then being asked to sign up for subscriptions to ensure the products work , are barriers to homeowners embracing such products .”
Recently introduced products in the range include the AviaSmart retrofittable casement window handle that alerts the homeowner when the window has not been secured properly ; simple ‘ locked / unlocked ’ sensors that may be installed on any window or door in the home ; a movement sensor ; and the AviaSmart smart plug , which may be used to operate various consumer products around the home whilst providing audio and visual feedback , energy monitoring and costing , and remote scheduling .
