Both sexes don’t like rejection. So prevention is best. Set the
tone right up front. We have strict policies against dating
clients and that someone has to be home that is 18 or over.
When you are in a home, remain professional. Be friendly
but not overly friendly. Eye contact yes but don’t linger with
it or let it stray. And of course no up and down body looks
regardless of what they are wearing. However, sometimes no
matter how professional you are a client can be persistent
even flirtatious. What do you do then?
First do not send any wrong signals. Focus on your
work more. If you start to see things headed the
wrong direction, bring up the topic of your mate and
children, if you have them. If you are single, mention
that you are in a serious relationship. If they don’t know
you are the owner of the company, say that the company
has a strict policy on dating clients. If they continue to over
compliment you just say thank you and continue to work.
In the rare situation that you sense that things are going
to get out of hand, you better have a back up plan. We
have instructed our techs to tell them that another tech or
manager will be showing up soon to help out with the job.
Excuse yourself to get something out of your vehicle and
make a call to the office and let your policy do the work.
Remember that some lines must never be crossed. Separate
your personal life from your business life and don’t cross
professional lines. This is especially important with
flirtatious clients. You have worked too hard to let a few
minutes of pleasure to ruin your business or marriage. As
tempting as it may seem at the time it’s just not worth it.
So learn to handle flirtatious clients and continue to build
your business. Everyone that respects you will be happier
and so will be much happier with yourself in the long run
if you learn how to handle flirtatious clients.
