SERENADE
 SERENADE
Friday 25th October, 7.30pm, Hall One
One century ago, a musician was born who did more to encapsulate the geographical and linguistic qualities of England than any other composer had managed before or has since. In his haunting Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, Benjamin Britten set poetry by Blake, Tennyson and Cotton with a intensity, penetration and unity of atmosphere that hadn’ t been heard before. We hear the Serenade here alongside the second of Mozart’ s carefree‘ Salzburg’ Divertimenti and his frantic, eerie but compelling Symphony No. 40.
