Levi VanOort, City Council Candidate (cont)
Do you feel you could work cooperatively with the established city council
and the city departments to move the city in a positive direction?
I feel over the course of my tenure on the city council I have demonstrated an ability to
work with a wide variety of city councils and the city departments to move the city in a
positive direction. As a leader at Rockwell Collins and industry wide consortiums I have
learned what it takes to build consensus with a wide variety of personality types with various, and sometimes competing agendas, to work towards a positive conclusion for all. I
intend to leverage these past experiences and utilize them to catapult me to future success with those new individuals that will hold these posts.
What are your positions on current community projects, such as the library
building project, downtown beautification and promotion of new business in
Clarence? How will you, as a councilperson, assist in promoting these projects?
As a citizen of the community I’m very much in favor of all things that grow our community and create that “appeal” that I spoke about in an earlier answer. Things like downtown beautification and promotion of new business are no-brainers and I’m positive that a majority of the
community are in full support of these projects. As far as the library project is concerned I’m in
full support of the project but I’m very aware that it is a “controversial” project in the community. Sitting on the council I have heard from people who are both for and against the project for
a variety of reasons. I think for any large scale community project to be successful and to
avoid the fear, uncertainty and doubt that can accompany such projects, it is important for everyone to feel that their questions were answered and they had an opportunity to voice their opinion. As a councilperson the most important thing I can do is make sure the community has a
clear set of facts about the library project, as well as all city projects, and, if the council is asked to
make a large scale financial commitment to any project, make sure the community is given an opportunity to voice their opinion through a vote.
