Friends of the Library
Christmas is getting closer
and in spite of our recent
high temperatures the
Friends of the
Library and the
Zybell Library
Board are planning activities for
the holiday. Once again
the Friends
group is sponsoring a Holiday
Home Tour and
are calling upon
residents to
open their
homes for this well received event. We hope
you will say “yes” when
asked to take part or if you
aren’t called to participate
and would like to do so,
call the Library and tell the
librarian on duty “I want to
have an Open
House”! The big day is
December 8th from 2 p.m.
to 4 p.m. The Home tour
will be followed by a Soup
Supper at the Legion Hall
sponsored by the Zybell
Library Board.
Another fun event was held
two years ago and was well
received. This was the
Silent Auction of Gift
Boxes, using book titles as
to clues of the contents of
the box. Many people
missed this fun last year
asked the Friends group to
repeat it. The EZ Readers
book study members assist
with this project.
Other events the Friends of
the Library are researching
are computer classes and a
program for children next
summer. We find that many
of the entertainers for children’s programs need to be
booked a year in advance. Providing an entertainer for the children is
the number one project of
the Friends of the Library.
St. John’s UCC Notes
Sunday School is at 9:00am, worship at 10:15am.
The food pantry is open every Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Scouting for Food
North Cedar Cub
Scout Pack 160 will
be accepting donations of nonperishable items to
stock local food pantries on Saturday,
Oct. 12 as part of
the Scouting for
Food program. Local
CLARENCE
COMMUNITY
scouts will deliver plastic
grocery bags to all homes
in Clarence, Lowden, Mechanicsville and Stanwood
on Saturday, Oct. 5. Then,
the following Saturday, beginning at approximately 8
am, scouts will collect the
bags of food. To make a
donation, residents are
asked to place nonperishable food items in the
bag and leave it outside by
the front door. All items
collected will be shared
with food pantries in the
communities of the North
Cedar School District to
benefit local residents.
