Cultural Activity: “ Pinned Up”
Pinned Up is an exhibition in the “Stedelijk Museum” that is about
Marcel Wanders. Marcel wanders is an designer. He is known
internationally for his products and furniture.
About Marcel Wanders
Marcel Wanders finishes his art study cum laude in 1988. After
this he founds his own design company, called Wanders Wonders.
In 1996 he breaks through with “knotted chair”. This really shows
his aim in designing: to create something durable. Wanders says
about the knotted chair: “ I wanted to create a chair that says: I
am designed with love, I am created with attention, it was not
easy but worth the hard work, I will serve you for the rest of your
live.” Also it is important to wanders to connect people with products. A product has to be
comfortable, and feel familiar, trusted. That is why he chooses elements recognizable to everyone.
Marcel Wanders gets a lot international assignments from big companies and firms. He approaches
these all in his own, unique way. He also makes art for himself, and that is what was exhibited at the
Stedelijk.
About “Pinned Up”
Pinned Up is the collection from the Stedelijk Museum
of Marcel Wanders. The creator of the exhibition,
Ingeborg De Roode, says that it is a good time for this
exhibition, because marcel is at his top of his career,
and people should get to know what he does and what
his vision is, when he is so important in the ArtIndustry world.
The exhibition was made out of 2 parts. There was a
dark part and a white part. In the white part, the
objects are simply “Pinned up”, hence the name of the
exhibition. It goes by 10 different themes, where his
work is analysed and showed. There is some humor in there too. In the dark part there is more
personal work, and a more dark side to Wanders.
There was weird music being played. Most of it was relaxing but there were some screams and weird
parts in it. There were voices making sounds. You can listen and view some parts of the exhibition for
