GROWING THE NON-OIL BUSINESS Industry: Oil & gas, retail CIVITTA team: Belarus, Ukraine, Russia IVITTA has won the tender to initiate a transformation of the non-oil business for one of the largest public companies in Belarus, dealing with oil refinery and oil products retail. The client`s non-oil business direction used to be significantly underdeveloped compared to its European counterparts. The project required a lot of creativity, development of new tools and techniques and multiple field trips around the country. It has been delivered in 3 intertwined strategy streams: gas station placement, grocery retail, and food catering. Our consultants verified conclusions against the benchmark of the strategies within the market leaders in the neighboring countries and combined field study to identify the best practices in the catering and retail grocery formats in the region. CIVITTA consultants defined the main issues in the current gas stations placement and developed a methodology of making a decision on the new investments. Furthermore, our team has come up with a brand-new catering and grocery retail formats strategy with expected effect of 2.5-3 time increase in catering, and grocery sales share in the total revenue. The positive feedback and client satisfaction not only opened up future projects but also helped gradually open up a Belarusian public consulting market. 23
