CIVIL RIGHTS ALL OVER THE WORLD

The Movement not only affected the United States, but it also made

a tremendous impact around the world. The movement promoted MLK’s vision for non-violent protests and movements. Before the American Civil Rights movement, whenever people would call for equal and civil rights, it would often result to violence and even war (Like the French Revolution), but MLK’s vision for non-violent protests gave way for non-violent practices to be done all around the world. An example could be our very own EDSA Revolution, where Filipinos marched on EDSA to put an end to the Marcos Regime, similar to the famous March in Washington D.C in the capitol. The Egyptian Revolution, where the people united to force their then president Hosni Mubarak to resign in 2011, is also one of known movements that took their inspiration from the Civil Rights Movement, taking into consideration MLK’s faith in nonviolent protest. According to Gayer (2011), how the successful revolution owed much of its success to MLK’s advocacy for nonviolence and the Civil Rights Movement that they took inspiration from. Although she also states how much faster the Egyptian Revolution took place as most of the population joined in the peaceful protest. The Civil rights movement also played quite the role in the loosening the immigration laws, making non-black people of color such as people of Latin descent or Asian descent get into the U.S much easier.

BUT THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT DID NOT STOP HERE as up until modern day there are several cases of racial discrimination in America, many believe that although segregation is no longer visibly seen, there is still this barrier between Black and White people. Add to the equation, the many other races that now live in America such as Latin and Asian people. The division is no longer seen but it is much felt.
