BUT THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT DID NOT STOP HERE as up until modern day there are several cases of racial discrimination in America, many believe that although segregation is no longer visibly seen, there is still this barrier between Black and White people. Add to the equation, the many other races that now live in America such as Latin and Asian people. The division is no longer seen but it is much felt.
#BLACKLIVESMATTER
As we enter the 21st century, the U.S. had pretty much abolished the entirety of it’s segregational past and erased its trace. But in 2013, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot to death by George Zimmerman. Trayvon Martin was said to be
a victim of racial profiling. Racial profiling, according to the National Institute of Justice in America, is the practice that targets people for suspicion of crime based on their race, ethnicity, religion or national origin. Patrisse Cullors (2015), one of the active and known members of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, sees this as the new wave racial discrimination in the United States. Through the years, the increased cases of injuries and killings from racial profiling has now boosted the movement and is now more active than ever, making it their goal to end racial profiling and the injustice they face just because of their race.
