INTERVIEW
CIVIL INSIGHT 2018
AN INTERVIEW WITH
MR. KULMAN GHISING
For years, Nepalese were forced to live in darkness with
load shedding of up to 17 hours gripping the nation.
But with the appointment of Mr. Kulman Ghising as
the Managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority
(NEA), everything changed. From bidding farewell to
hectic load shedding timetable to bringing euphoric
smiles on the faces of Nepalese, Mr. Kulman Ghising
has headed the Nepalese diaspora to prosperity.
Through this interview, we got to know more about
his humble personality along with his prospects for
the country.
Q. Why were you inclined towards Electrical
Engineering in that contemporary era? And
why did you join MBA later?
I was interested in circuit diagrams and electrical
subjects during my I.Sc. Pulchowk Campus was
the only engineering college in Nepal at the time
which didn’t provide electrical engineering course.
So, I opted for Indian Embassy to study Bachelor’s
in Electrical Engineering. After graduating, I started
working at NEA as an electrical engineer in the 7th
level. Meanwhile, I also did my master’s degree in
“Power System Engineering” from Pulchowk campus
with a thesis on “Integrated Resource Planning with
Demand Size Management”.
I was then offered scholarship at one of the
prestigious institutes of India for MBA. Back then
I knew the importance of fi nancial management
and mathematical knowledge towards the technical
fi eld, so I wanted to join MBA. As I was selected
as 10th level offi cer in NEA, I wanted to utilize my
leisure time and hence started studying MBA right
