CIVIL INSIGHT 2018 Events 83 Kathmandu University - Lecture Series (KULS-42): Interaction with Prof. Dr. T I Eldho Prithvi Khadka Batch 2014 (Alumnus) Albira Acharya Batch 2014 (Alumna) The School of Engineering in collaboration with Departments and Clubs, has been organizing Kathmandu University Lecture Series (KULS) at Kathmandu University on a regular basis. The reason behind this is to give practical information on the current issues on Energy, Environment, Management, Research and Development and policy for their implementation to students, faculties, staffs and invitees. Prominent experts in the fi eld are invited to share their knowledge and experience with KULS participants. On August 19, 2018, KULS-42 was organized by the Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering (DCGE) in collaboration with Kathmandu University Civil Engineering Club (KUCEC) at CV Raman Auditorium, Kathmandu University. This program was supported by Hydro Design Sustainable Innovation, New Delhi. The theme of the lecture series was “Research and Development in Infl atable Rubber- Gate-Weir”. This time, DCGE and KUCEC invited Prof. Dr. T I Eldho, an expert in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, to share with us his experience on Water Resources Engineering and Research and Development in Infl atable Rubber-Gate-Weir. Dr. Eldho is a professor of water resource and environmental engineering and the head of the department of civil engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. His research areas include Groundwater Flow and Pollution Investigation; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Coastal Hydrodynamics; Watershed Management; Application of Numerical Methods in Water and Environment. The lecture series started with the welcome remarks from Associate Professor and Head of Department of DCGE, KU, Dr. Prachand Man Pradhan. At the beginning of each session, participants were presented with background information and discussion questions. This lecture series, then, continued with the presentation of Mr. Sudhir Gupta elucidating briefl y about the infl atable rubber weir. Detailed explanation about the weir; its composition; parameters to be checked before planning the installation, and tests performed by them in their lab and its advantages were clarifi ed by the guest speaker Prof. Dr. Eldho. The program also included the presentation of Ms. Nalini Ram from Hydro Design, India, on Silt fl ushing system
