66 PROJECTS CIVIL INSIGHT 2018 DEMONSTRATIVE MODEL OF TEHRI DAM DEMONSTRATIVE MODEL OF ENGURI DAM Group Members: Aayush Subedi, Aayush Gurung, Atish Gurung, Deepak Khadka, Priyanshu Pathak, Smriti Sharma Supervisor: Er. Sanjaya Dhonju Shrestha Group Members: Arjun Baral, Anup Gautam, Binod Chand, Ravi Bhandari, Bishwas Shrestha, Sagar Kapri Supervisor: Er. Suman Shrestha This project demonstrates the components of Tehri dam, an earthen dam located in Uttarakhand, India. Due to less crest width, the model was constructed using distorted scale. The model stood on a wooden base and its components were made up of black cotton soil, red soil and aggregates of various sizes. A glass panel was placed to show the cross-section in an elegant manner. Surrounding terrains were made up of thermocol, whereas water colors depicted the upstream and downstream portions. Different parts were labelled and the model was painted to provide an aesthetic view. An arch dam is a solid dam made up of concrete that is upstream in plan. It is constructed for power generation and irrigation purposes. Enguri dam is the second highest concrete arch dam in the world with a height of 271.5m. Its crest length is 728m, crest thickness is 10m and radius of arch is 312m. Distorted scale was used in this project. The model was made using plywood, foams and PVC pipes. The proper shape of the arch dam was obtained by plotting the graph from various known data.
