Neighborhoods Residents continue to rate their neighborhoods very positively in terms of quality of life (82% “excellent” or “good”). • Speeding on neighborhood streets (improved from 2000) continues to be perceived as the biggest problem in city neighborhoods. • Minor problems include: the condition of major streets in or near neighborhoods, car burglaries, condition of residential streets, residential burglaries, street lighting, homes in need of repair, stray animals, and dilapidated fences (improved from 2000). • Only street lighting (down from 2003) and neighborhood gang problems (up from 2000) are areas that have negatively changed. Neighborhoods in Arlington continue to be rated very safe for walking alone during the day (very safe 75% or somewhat safe 20%). • More than one out of three residents say they would feel very safe walking alone in their neighborhood at night. • Residents continue to feel safer walking in Arlington neighborhoods than in either Fort Worth or Dallas.
