Neighborhoods
Most Arlington residents rate their neighborhoods favorably, in terms of quality of life
(81% “excellent” or “good”). Speeding on neighborhood streets is perceived as the
most widespread problem in city neighborhoods. Among other areas identified most
often as neighborhood problems are the condition of major streets in or near
neighborhoods, car burglaries, condition of residential streets, residential burglaries,
street lighting, stray animals, and dilapidated fences. All of these are viewed as at least
minor problems by one-third or more of Arlington residents.
While residents’
perceptions of most neighborhood problems remained consistent to previous year
measures, there was a significant decrease in perceptions of residential burglaries* and
junk vehicles as neighborhood problems.
Most residents feel very safe in their neighborhoods during the day, and one out of
three say they would feel very safe walking alone in their neighborhood at night. Most
residents (63%) say they would feel safer walking alone at night in their own
neighborhood than in other neighborhoods in Arlington. An even larger percentage say
they would feel safer walking alone at night in Arlington neighborhoods than
neighborhoods in Dallas or Fort Worth.
