Blood Pressure Checks Lunch at Sea Country Center Drop by the Sea Country Center on November 12, March 10, and May 12 from 9am-1pm for a free blood pressure check provided by students and faculty from the University of California, Irvine’s Nursing Program. It is recommended to have routine checks of your blood pressure as it can detect any rise, and give you and your doctor an early warning of any related issues. Registration is not required. Hot or cold lunches are available Mon., Wed., and Fri. at 11:45am. Cold lunches are available on the courtyard Tues. and Thurs., weather permitting. A suggested donation of $5.50 is requested for seniors age 60+. Reservations are encouraged, but not required. For more information, call our on-site nutrition coordinator at (949) 362-2807. (All meals are provided by Age Well Senior Services.) Grief Support Group Grief support groups offer companionship and understanding from others who have experienced similar loss and challenges that living with grief brings. A safe place for you to share conversation openly and guilt-free in an informal and comforting setting about the loss of your loved one with others who are experiencing similar grief. Join us the first and third Tuesday, every month, from 10-11:30am. There is no cost to attend this group, however, please register by calling our front desk at (949) 425-5151. HICAP Health Insurance Counseling Advocacy Program (HICAP) is offered through the Council on Aging-Southern California. HICAP offers free unbiased and individualized counseling on Medicare, Medicare Policies, and other related health insurance topics the first and third Monday of the month from 9am-1pm. The HICAP counselor can assist you by improving your understanding of Medicare related benefits, enrollment requirements, supplemental plans, prescription drug plans, programs to help lower your costs, and long term care services and support. Legal Aid The Legal Aid Society offers FREE legal advice to seniors (must be at least 60 years of age or older). They offer advice on issues including government benefits, health, housing, consumer problem, wills, elder abuse, and more. A legal representative is available on the second Thursday of every month at Sea Country Center. To schedule an appointment, please call the front desk at (949) 425-5151. Meals on Wheels For those who qualify, home delivered meals are available through Age Well Senior Services. Monday-Friday, volunteers deliver meals to those who are unable to come to the center. For more information, call (949) 362-2807. Tax Assistance The Sea Country Senior & Community Center provides free tax assistance to people who are age 60 and older. IRS-certified volunteers provide free assistance and basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Beginning January 6, you can schedule an appointment for tax assistance. Appointments are available on Tuesdays from February-April. Senior Mobility Program Through OCTA Measure M2 funding, this service provides roundtrip transportation from residents’ homes to Sea Country Senior & Community Center through a City contract with California Yellow Cab. This program provides curb-to-curb service on demand from 9am-4pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Please note: This program DOES NOT currently provide transportation for medical appointments or for social/community excursions. This program is open to Laguna Niguel residents, ages 60 and older. Saddleback College Emeritus Classes Founded in 1976, the Saddleback College Emeritus Institute was established to create lifelong learning opportunities primarily for the older adult. A dynamic array of high-quality, academic classes are available in over 30 disciplines, taught by expert instructors. Classes are offered at a variety of locations throughout the community on a non-credit, tuition-free basis.
