The National Institutes of Health (NIH) describes osteoporosis as a disease that causes bones to become fragile leading to an increase in the risk of fracture of the hip, spine and wrist. Both women and men can be affected by osteoporosis and in the United States more than 40 million people either already have this condition or are at risk for developing it. This presentation will cover the ways suggested by the NIH to detect, prevent and to treat the disease. The discussion will also include the range of medications physicians can use to help manage the condition.
