S cuba diving in the Caribbean Ocean, zip lining through the Panama jungle, releasing baby sea turtles back into the wild during nightly expeditions... Just another day in the life of a Girl Scout. Ashley Chico, a Senior Girl Scout in Troop 2095, spent 14 incredible days on a Girl Scout Destination with Outward Bound Costa Rica. The once-in-a-lifetime adventure brought Ashley and 11 other Girl Scouts from across the country to the depths of an ancient ship wreck during a night dive, to the tops of the jungle canopy, and into the nests of newly-hatched endangered sea turtles. This is what her trip was all about. Passionate about animals and the STEM field, Ashley wanted to better understand the crisis of animal extinction. Through cataloging nests, creating new habitats, and conducting nightly patrols, these Girl Scouts played a first-hand role in local conservation efforts. Continue on next page... Page 11
