Day 22nd, Month 6, 1940.

This is my first time writing on a dairy, but I think that is going to be good for my family to know what would have happened in case I died. I was assigned as a sniper by the IRA two months ago. I joined the army at the start because I was starving and it was the only way I could survive. Then they cheered us up for fighting for the country against the Free Staters and they managed to make us all proud for the fighting as well.

Day 12th, Month 7, 1940.

Today I was assigned for the first time for a mission in Dublin. I and my team were assigned for flanking a convoy near the centre of the city that was carrying lots of weapons and food for the Free Staters. Our team was composed by six men, a small group for such a mission against twenty of them but we managed to get prepared.
