beer ahead of the ever-trending craft
beer race for over 15 years.
12,000 gallons of Stone’s Pale
Ale, in 1996, started a wave that’s
grown to into roughly 6.3 million gallons of beer. Yes. Millions. Gallons.
Beer. Deep breaths. Their walls are
filled with awards for many varieties
from 2002 to present times. Including #1 on Beeradvocate’s “All-Time
Top Breweries on Planet Earth” and
FIVE of their beers made top 25 “AllTime Top Beers on Planet Earth.”
Let’s drink one and stop yammering on about it, right?! I bought a
22oz Stone Ruination IPA, what did
you get? I’m a big fan of a good IPA,
so let’s break this one down and get
to the drinking!
Nailed it on color; a ten. It’s
exactly what to look for in an IPA Slightly hazy, pale orange with a
golden look to it in good light. The
carbonation puts up a head that
should retain itself for the duration of
a pint. This Double / Imperial IPA
has a modest 8.2% ABV so I’m
gonna chug it. Just Kiddin’! Obvious
hops when you pull a whiff after its
poured but there’s tones of sweet
and earth in addition to the piney

hops. Let’s give’er a taste though. You’re
going to get a solid hop burst and if you’re
not a fan of that, this ain’t your beer. It’s
crisp and smooth though and the sweet
that I smelled earlier really comes out, as
does some of the earth flavor. But what
really hits the hardest is the grapefruit
taste, backed with the sweetness of orange; citrus all the way. The malts balance
and round out the flavors, and THIS is the
reason I chose to salute Stone. It’s so
good! This is a beer that will dance around
in your mouth and even after it’s down in
your belly, your lips and gums and tongue
and cheeks are holding onto the flavors of
(ooh, I just got a little vanilla) everything
