Second hand items have a bad rep. Sure, they may have been popular in another decade, but that does not mean they aren't stylish today! Any article can spice up your outfit if you give it the chance. In fact, thrift shop items have plenty of modern style, and shoppers simply need to recognize their potential!

I recently found a very cute clutch purse at a second hand shop that blew me away. As I searched high and low through the store for something that fit my taste, I found the “it” item all the way at the bottom of a bin of wallets and purses. I immediately saw potential in this slightly used 80s style clutch. It was simple, yet had a sense of class. Being of one solid color, I knew its simplicity would work with any outfit. It could be coupled with an everyday outfit or go perfectly with a little black dress for a night on the town.

When you walk into a thrift store, don't immediately write every item off just because it doesn't resemble what you see in brand name stores. Keep an open mind! Sometimes it requires a bit of thinking outside the box in order to see what an article of clothing or accessory can do for your wardrobe.

Here are three questions to ask yourself when looking at thrift shop items:

1. Does this resemble a style I've seen elsewhere?

2. What do I already have that would go well with this item?

3. Am I being too conservative? (Don’t be afraid to take a risk!)

Good luck, thrifters!
