Staff Impact

by Brett Beckstead

Recently Community High School has gone through a bit of a change. Instead of students heading to their normal classrooms, they go to rooms that have been modified so that two or more classes fit into one room. The new renovation is in full swing and the contractors have started to tear down walls and gut the building.

The educational facilitators at Community have been forced to move their rooms around, which has made keeping every teacher's belongings together a whole lot harder. “This new move has made my teaching style be a little more flexible,” states Jay Ingersoll, social studies teacher at Community.

Being flexible is key, Eileen Zygarlicke, English teacher, agreed. “The whole renovation and room sharing has made me re-evaluate what I really need to be teaching and how I deliver that instruction. You have to kind of roll with things”

Ingersoll sees the positives in the changes.“It will be a better set-up and make things run smoothly. It will allow me to lecture and have more class discussions.”

Zygarlicke decided to keep things simple in block six. She designed a group project that will cover the renovations. “It will help the students be more involved in what's going on.”

Staff felt more impacts as they packed up and moved into the School for the Blind's gym. The key to success in these circumstances is to be organized and go with the flow says Zygarlicke. "We are just on the cusp of the real renovations. As a staff, we have to be patient and go with the flow."
