3. More time for friends and family…

Jesus was big on friendship; several scriptures in the Bible even pay tribute to the theme. In particular, Proverbs 27:17 states, ‘As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another’. Great friends can help strengthen, shape, characterise and mould us into the very best versions of ourselves.

Jesus’s love and loyalty influenced each of His 11 friends (followers) to become amazing men of God, ones who enriched Heaven’s kingdom, saved lost souls and breathed hope and light back into the world.

Let’s enjoy the extra room we have to make more memories and moments with loved ones, allowing them to positively sharpen our hearts and minds. Singleness gives us the chance to focus on the ones who already make us happy then on the one who in the future possibly could.

4. Finding one’s true self…

I’m no expert, but I think one reason breakups happen is due to individuals entering into relationships without knowing who they truly are and where their identity lies. It’s easy to get swept away with romance, guys, and the world when we haven’t placed our love, worth and life in God’s hands first. Sometimes, we can be so busy aspiring to the idea of what someone else wants that we forget aspiring to the very person God has dreamed us up to be. Romans 12; 2 confirms, ‘Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will’.

When we take a moment to examine who God intended us to become, we can thus resist the pressures of becoming what others want and expect from us.

Finding one’s true self is key to how a successful life and if in God’s will a successful relationship can be achieved. When we can identify our likes, dislikes, beliefs, values, standards and worth we can then distinguish if a relationship is built on love, not loneliness.

We can be so busy aspiring to the idea of what someone else wants that we forget aspiring to the very person God has dreamed us up to be.
