After that was out of the way, Levi ran through the case details in his mind; death (obviously), place of death: London flat (locked), cause of death: currently unknown but probably another unnecessary suicide, Appleby: probably his attorney (possible suspect from constant babble). There were other things he wasn’t so sure about; a locked flat always posed a problem and forensics would probably destroy evidence before he got to investigate. Also the fact that no visible wounds had been found narrowed the suicide down to poisoning, however no chemicals or packaging were found on the victim. To be honest (something he didn’t have a problem with) this murder was just as boring as any other that an idiot could easily solve if they looked closely enough.
He needed a case. He couldn't continue with all the destructive behaviour, grotesque experiments (on body parts) and irritating all the unfortunately dull people he happened to 'accidentally encounter' with deductions and revealing secrets they had tried to keep hidden. He debated whether he should take on the case or not. Then he decided that as much as he was desperate for something to keep his brilliant mind entertained he couldn't cope with the tedium of another (completely predictable) suicide case.
However, his thoughts were interrupted by one word.
Chocolate.
He didn't know why this appealed to him, or why it stood out, but he trusted his mind and decided to listen. His expression didn't change and it would not have been noticeable by most people, but all of a sudden his was focus wasback on Appleby's extremely boring voice.
It was still difficult to concentrate on every word the man was saying, but Levi had already filled in the gaps with different (but probably correct) information. He was beginning to slip away again, but held himself back.
"Almost as if it were death by chocolate, Mr Mandeville sir." Appleby mentioned, evidently having noticed that he didn't have Levi's full attention.
"No," Levi said as he began to rise to his feet. He walked to the door. As he turned the handle and opened the door he said, "More like blood chocolate." And with that, he left the room.
