“I put that SWAT gear on and feel like a super hero, like I could
do stuff that normally I wouldn’t be able to. I pay homage to the
guys who really do it and put their lives on the line everyday.”
Although Lim was very active before S.W.A.T
– picking up his first set of dumbbells at
the age of 12 to impress a girl, he jokes that
what keeps him motivated to workout daily
is wanting to fit into his SWAT outfit, and
the endless Instagram workout selfies he
sees are also a nice kick! Playing the role of
Victor Tan on S.W.A.T. suits Lim unbeliev-
ably well. He works extra hard to make this
show amazing because his character, Victor
Tan, represents something he never saw as a
child: Asian-American actors. Bringing his
cultural background to the entertainment
industry is the ultimate success, “I love what
I can represent being an Asian-American
actor on a network television show, playing a
non-stereotypical role as a badass action hero.
I love what that could mean to a lot of kids.
Hopefully they say, ‘maybe I can become this
badass SWAT officer too!’” Victor Tan will
be even more relevant in S.W.A.T. Season 2, as
the writers push the bar to incorporate topics
of diversity with the help of Lim’s character.
Yes, that means more scenes of Lim in his
awesome S.W.A.T. gear!
