When describing David Lim, a few words that come to mind are: determined, hard working, Asian-American actor, ath- letic and active, handsome … well, the list goes on! These are all traits Lim used to his advantage when jumping into the modeling and acting industry. Escaping from a world full of cubicles, suits and paper work in mortgage sales, Lim was out of his element when moving to L.A. a decade ago to pursue his acting dream. Being the new kid on the block, he had to stand out. Applying that same daily grind from his office life was natural, “Acting is also sales, to the extent that the product is you. Whereas before I was selling a mortgage, now I’m hustling to make new contacts and sell myself as an actor.” First things first: acting classes. He signed up and was hit with reality when acting proved to be much more difficult than his idols Denzel Washington and the boys from Entourage made it seem, “When you get into something you think you have an idea of what it’s about, but until you actually have the experience you realize it’s nothing you could have read in a blog or a book.” This was just another challenge Lim was eager to take on! So what prompted such a risky career change? It was something an acquaintance of his said: “He told me I should try acting be- cause there’s a need for Asians in entertainment. I thought, ‘Really? I don’t see many on TV, can I really be the one to change that?’” As the financial industry began to become all too familiar, these words played in Lim’s mind until he decided to take the leap of faith. Then began the David Lim glow up. Lim always loves a good challenge. Whether it is in his career, on the sports field or in the gym, he is always pushing the limits. It is no surprise that when he caught word of S.W.A.T. he knew he had to go for it. The action, stunts and of course working alongside Shemar Moore were all selling points for a guy who was hungry for success. To Lim, this opportunity was (in SWAT terms) all clear! Not to mention Moore and Lim have now become workout buddies ever since, “If we have some downtime we’ll hit the gym together and get our workout in, since we have a travelling gym that comes wherever we’re filming.” These two were clearly meant to be battling in the same SWAT unit. “I love what I can represent being an Asian-American actor on a network television show, playing a non-stereotypical role as a badass action hero. I love what that could mean to a lot of kids. Hopefully they say, ‘maybe I can become this badass SWAT officer too!’”
