Ava Turner age 6
ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA (ALL)
At the age of four, Ava Turner was diagnosed
with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia – a very
aggressive blood and bone marrow cancer.
Right alongside her older sister Megan, who was
being treated for a blood disorder called Neutropenia, Ava immediately began
an intense outpatient treatment program at Akron Children’s Hospital’s Showers
Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders. After undergoing
rounds of chemotherapy, steroid regimens, and occasional hospital stays, Ava
gained renewed strength through the expert care of her physicians and nurses.
Through services like expressive therapy, palliative care, and counseling, Ava, her
parents, and her sister were able to holistically heal together.
Today, Ava is 6 and when she smiles at you, you immediately find yourself
smiling back. She is in remission and finished her final dose of Chemotherapy in
February. Her family is now looking forward to a stronger, happier future thanks
to their extended family at Akron Children’s Hospital.
