Isaiah Struck age 7
SEVERE BURN
On the beautiful summer evening of June 15,
2010, life for three-year-old Isaiah Struck
changed forever. While enjoying a family bonfire
in the backyard, Isaiah suddenly caught on
fire. His father grabbed him and pressed him to his chest to smother the fire.
The paramedics arrived and worked on Isaiah for about 20 minutes before
transporting him more than 50 miles from his home to Hurley Children’s Hospital
in Flint MI, the region’s Burn Center. Isaiah suffered second and third degree
burns, and his parents were told there was a possibility he may never walk
again. Isaiah stayed brave during his two week stay at Hurley’s, and once he
was discharged he had weekly visits to the outpatient Burn Clinic for two more
months.
To look at seven-year-old Isaiah today, you could never imagine all he’s been
through. He’s very physically active and has an amazing, positive attitude about
life. Since the accident, he’s been in wrestling, basketball, hockey, swimming,
and skiing (at Burn Camp and with the family). He also loves snowboarding,
bowling, and tae kwon do. Outside of school, Isaiah loves fishing, playing soccer,
camping, and riding his four- wheeler. Isaiah Struck is truly a miracle!
