last day of Final Exams was June 7
in 2019, and this year it will be June
1. We also have a fi ve-day weekend
for Thanksgiving, two weeks off for
Christmas, and a week off for Easter.
Many believe that the change in the
school schedule was a great move for
the students.
“I love starting earlier,” said Junior
Tommy Lamarche. “It is very nice
getting a full week for Mid-Winter,
and not just a long weekend. I also
love not having to study over Christ-
mas break.”
It’s not just the students who feel
this way.
“I think it’s a good thing to start
fresh for the second semester,” Mr.
Galli said. “It took two or three years
to get the schedule where it needed to

be. We had to sacrifi ce a little bit but,
this year, starting earlier means that
we would have fi nals before Christ-
mas Break, but we also balanced out
the school year.”
While most would agree, there are
those in the school who have a prob-
lem with missing so much of their
summer.
“It’s a good thing you’re not ask-
ing me in August, because I would
have had nothing good to say,” said
one faculty member, who wished to
remain anonymous.
“There are also a lot of ‘fl uff days’
built in, especially in the second se-
mester. It seems like we could tighten
up the schedule and still take exams
before Christmas and end early.”
After hearing all of these responses,
it is pretty clear that most appreciate
the move and hope to continue this
schedule for years to come.

mingham or fi nd some way to increase
the one-on-one time.
Either way, the set curfew is irrel-
evant.
One thing you might want to
consider before beginning this entire
function is changing your best friend’s
contact name to “Mother.” By doing
this, you can give “Mother” a text
to call you with an emergency if the
night is slowly turning into a disaster,
thus allowing an escape from the mess
you’ve gotten yourself into.
Finally, as Brother Rice students,
each and every one of us should show
respect for whomever it is that we
admire.
My parting advice is to be a gentle-
man and have fun this Valentine’s
Day.
