Running to Glory An up-close look at the Cross Country team’ s emergence

The fall sports season is well underway and has already provided plenty of excitement. While the football team and the beloved Goon Squad have been spectacular, this year a new team has emerged. This is a team that competes on Saturday mornings, running around loops of natural terrain. The 2016 Brother Rice Cross Country team has quietly put together one of the most impressive seasons in the program’ s history.
This is a team more known for stellar academic performance; Cross Country usually holds one of the highest team GPA’ s at the school. That constant success in the classroom has obviously transitioned to the field. Now they are one of the best teams in Division 1 and look to compete for a State title this year.
The results prove consistent success: nine combined invitational and dualmeet wins, including a Catholic League Championship Oct. 22, as well as a thirdplace finish at the prestigious Oakland County meet. Led by top runners Alec Miracle, Michael Tremonti, Grant Davey,

and Kyle Chisholm, the team is talented but also somewhat inexperienced, as their team is comprised of four Sophomores, two Juniors, and one Senior.
While ordinarily a great result, the team’ s recent 3rd place finish at the Oakland County meet came as a bit of a disappointment to the team.
“ We got the wakeup call we needed,” Senior Kyle Chisholm said.“ We knew we were good, but now we know what it is going to take to compete with the big dogs at the State meet. We are hungrier and more motivated now than
