Field Day 2016 Missing video taints an otherwise fun, competitive day By Bobby Kunz Chieftain Staff Since its revival in 2004 and its integration with the Band of Brothers in 2009, Field Day has given Brother Rice students the opportunity to partake in fun and competitive activities, grow closer with one another, and celebrate school spirit. This year was no exception, as the boys from St. Padre Pio won in one of the closest competitions to date. With that being said, something was missing. That something was the Field Day Video, produced annually by the Senior Goon Squad leaders. Typically enjoyed by students and faculty alike, this hilarious video usually kicks off the day and sets the event on the right note. So why no video? The Chieftain recently caught up with Mr. Godwin, Brother Rice’s Dean, to talk about the Senior Video. “I met with some [Brother Rice] staff members on Monday leading up to Field Day,” Mr. Godwin said, “and they reached out to me about the past videos not being appropriate for school, so Mrs. Jackson and I told the guys to deliver it to us by midnight Wednesday. “Nothing arrived until a couple of hours before it was supposed to play, so we didn’t have time to review or edit the video and, unfortunately, it couldn’t be played. I told the Seniors that the video could be edited and played at a later time. They politely declined. “I honestly lost sleep over this, I really did. I’m not happy about how it ended up, but I just didn’t feel it represented Brother Rice in a good way.” As for the day’s activities, the first segment kicked off in exciting fashion, as Charlie Nelson (Sebastian) won Students plead for the Field Day video the Mighty Mouse competition that cer.
