Controversial Finish to Field Day By Nolan Geraghty Chieftain Staff Another safe successful Field Day is in the books, although there was some controversy. The annunced winner was St. Brendan, which defeated St. Padre Pio in a tug-of-war tie-breaker. However, Padre Pio had more points when Segment Two concluded. Coach Joe had predetermined that if the score was within ten points, there would be a tug-of-war event to make it more interesting. Brendan won the tug-of-war, claiming the championship. After the event, it was brought to Coach Joe’s attention that the tiebreaker was not announced before Field Day started. After careful consideration, it was determined that Brendan and Padre Pio would be crowned co-Champions. Of course, both sides had a case to declare themselves champions, but ultimately this was the best way to decide the winner. The rest of the Bands finished in the following order: St. Sebastian, St. Leo, St. Raphael and St. Max Kolbe. After Segment One, it was still a close competition. Brendan led, even though they only came in first in three of the 21 competitions. In Segment Two, Padre Pio won three events out of six to tie it up. We also witnessed history this year, as a record 26 repetitions were put up by Cole Gellatly in the Mighty Mouse challenge, which is always a crowd pleaser. And, of course, it wouldn’t be Field Day without dodgeball. Every game this year came down to the wire.
