What We are Thankful For The “windows” in the cafeteria In the spirit of this holiday, the Chieftain would like to give thanks for the many contributions to the Rice community The smaller chocolate milk that costs the same Mrs. Stoltman’s couch (and spare IDs) Goon Squad punctuality Campus Ministry for making retreats and mission trips possible Strict ARC rules Unending flood of homework Moms and Dads Clubs for all they do Our new “game machines” Maintenance staff for their thankless, yet vital, work The haunted microwave in the cafeteria Tech department for keeping us running Parking lot spot stealers All our brothers in the vast alumni base New TV’s in the arc (... do they work?) Faculty & staff The TV in the cafeteria that we don’t use Wi-Fi disconnections The opportunity to openly talk about our faith and beliefs The elevator to the third floor Veterans and active service members The school’s two good water fountains Band of Brothers Edmund Rice AirDrop that only has been used productively once Mr. Kuschel for organizing IM sports AirPlane mode (you know why) Extracurricular activities and the opportunities they give us An athletic program so strong that it’s a mild shock when we don’t win Parents and families, who make the sacrifices that allow us to attend Brother Rice Finally catching Sr. Marie’s drift: “every subject, every night” Mr. Birney’s time as our President Mr. Daniel’s time as our Dean The Pistons, who may have become our best pro sports team And, let’s be honest, we should probably give thanks for the following, as well: Our ID’s because, without them, nobody would know our names The 30 extra minutes we get on random Wednesdays to play dodgeball The Keurig in Ms. Katz’s room that we don’t get to use The fact that Marian is so close when we’re made to believe it’s a million miles away Brother Rice Donors The exercise we get when we have to access a bathroom from D-Wing ... or, after school, to get to the only bathroom that’s open (the one across from the cafeteria) Our readers The 11 saunas that we have in D-Wing Student leaders iWarriors B R OTHE R R IC E H IG H S C H O O L C H I E F TA I N P AGE 5 Another No. 1 pick in the NFL draft Iced coffee in the cafeteria Coach Joe’s Wednesday talks The bell schedules for the raffle, which make the new Wednesday schedules seem absolutely comprehendible Google Drive for providing a better excuse than “my dog ate my homework” Accounting and the other classes that make us a co-ed school The development of the critical thinking skills required to get out of the parking lot every day New curtains on the showers in the locker room that we still don’t use Mr. Galli and Mr. Higdon, who bring down the average age of our teachers by .07389 x 10^2 years N O V E M B E R 2015
