In This Bad Year of Candidates ,
By Michael Ferrari Chieftain Staff
Donald Trump and Joe Biden are both polarizing , to say the least . They act more as caricatures than Presidential candidates . Both candidates represent the worst sides of both of their respective parties .
At this point , the only thing that I can fully advocate for is the abandonment of the two-party system . As an Independent , I encourage all people to vote based on the merit of the candidates , not based on the party the candidates represent . This election most definitely is a battle between the lesser of the two evils .
Trump is nothing more than a womanizer who was born into his wealth . He ’ s never worked for anything in his life and expects everything to go his way , simply because he is Donald Trump .
Trump absolutely botched his response to Coronavirus . Even though he closed borders with China early on , he completely disregarded the World Health Organization ’ s recommendations and refused to wear masks in press interviews and in public . Trump coming down with CO- VID-19 is nothing more than poetic justice due to how he has completely disregarded the existence of the virus and left the American people without a leader to look up to in a time of fear .
Furthermore , he failed to respond to the American people looking for an answer in a time of social unrest . Since the death of George Floyd in May , the nation has been calling for police reform ; Trump has yet to respond to the protests effectively or give any marginalized Americans a sense of hope . To be fair , the past year is absolutely unprecedented , and it is hard to hold Trump to a standard that no other President has ever had to uphold . However , even before 2020 , Trump was nothing more than an average President , and arguably a bad one . His terrible record on foreign affairs is due to his outlandish personality and blunt attitude toward foreign allies . To his credit , he has made major advances in the Middle East with Israel but , other than that , his track record is unimpressive at best .
As one would expect from a businessman , one of Trump ’ s only positive talking points is the fact that the economy is strong and unemployment rates are low , though both have seen negative trends since April due to COVID-19 . However , many can argue that Trump ’ s economy was inherited
Milia Wins Student Election Dudley , Wilcenski voted in as Vice Presidents

The 2020 Brother Rice Band of Brothers election had many significant differences than previous elections in Rice history . For the first time ever , speeches were delivered by candidates who were filmed , rather than live in front of the student body .
After the speeches were thoroughly examined and approved by Mr . Kalczynski and the Administration , the videos were shown to the student body in Mentor Groups . The candidates had a time limit of 1:20 per video . Overall , the video quality was exceptional .
According to Mr . Kalczynski , 359 students voted , about 70 percent of the student body . In what was termed

a “ landslide ,” Rocco Milia was named President , while Luke Dudley and Blaise Wilcenski were Vice Presidents .
“ I am very excited to be President this year ,” Milia said . “ This school means the world to me , and I ’ ve always wanted to help lead it since I was a Freshman . “ My goal this
Rocco Milia year is to continue Brother Rice ’ s great tradition and Brotherhood . I want to make it clear that I am open to talk to any students that need help here at Brother Rice , or those who may have ideas for the school to improve on .”
Both Vice Presidents agreed , saying

they were honored to represent the Brother Rice student body .
“ I want to improve the lives of Rice students during this pandemic and continue the legacy of making Rice the best time of your lives ,” Dudley added .
Many people favored the conciseness of this year ’ s speeches . However , others disapproved , feeling we could have hosted live speeches outside .
“ One of the largest factors in the election is the candidates ’ ability to deliver speeches with confidence and effectiveness ,” stated Sophomore Luke Sacca .
“ I would have enjoyed a speech in front of the whole school ,” said Milia , “ but I am still happy I got to speak in front of every student .”
