SPECIAL SECTION
What Makes Our Community Special
Brother Rice joined in as the nation celebrated Catholic Schools Week in January. Dress-down days, an all-school
Mass, a 50/50 raffle and, to wrap it up, the first annual showdown between Brother Rice and St. Regis. Sadly, Regis
won. While all these activities were good fun, what is the real reason behind our celebration as a Catholic school?
Brother Rice serves a tremendous role in developing each and every one of us. Here, faith is the driving force behind
everything we do, and there are many extracurricular activities offered at Rice that exemplify our strong faith and
exceptional talents. These organizations give our school the magnificent reputation that we have. This special section
of the Chieftain highlights a handful of these extracurriculars and how they make our school extraordinary.

It’s All Business
Unique exposure to the real world
By Matthew Busuito
Chieftain Staff
The Business and Entrepreneurship
Alliance at Marian and Rice (BEAM&R)
is an extracurricular group that exposes
students to the business world. The organization’s mission is “to introduce students to the business concepts that enable
entrepreneurship and engage students
in a range of activities that will motivate
them to improve their understanding of
business in general.”
The students who comprise BEAM&R are undervalued. They have a busy schedule throughout the year. They
attend DECA competitions,
bring in special guests from
the local business community at monthly
“BEAM&R and Bagels” in the mornings,
and work together in community outreach activities.
If you are looking to pursue any sort
of career in the business field, BEAM&R
is the perfect club to join. Anyone interested should contact Mr. Dyar.
