LET’S GET IT STARTED
Jaguars open season with
Kansas City Chiefs

third-round selection of Quincy Williams sparked
a collective “who?” from many observers,
including a notable national draft analyst.
Williams has answered the call with a great
offseason, working with the fi rst team most of
the time and fl ashing impressive speed and
football IQ. The knee injury is behind him, and
he looks to have a major impact in his rookie
season. His fi rst NFL experience on a game
fi eld will come today against one of the most
explosive offenses in football. Look also for
eighth-year veteran linebacker Najee Goode, who
joined the Jaguars in free agency in May and who
played the weak-side linebacker position during
Williams’ absence. Jaguars: second-year player Ronnie Harrison
and fourth-year player Jarrod Wilson take over
the back end. Harrison made eight starts in his
rookie season, mainly playing as a “big nickel,”
but posted 31 tackles and an interception. Wilson
has 47 games of experience in the NFL over
three seasons, but only two starts at safety. He
joined the Jaguars as an undrafted rookie in
2016 and has been an important special teams
contributor. Can the safeties live up to the
secondary’s standard?
The Jaguars corners are stout: Jalen Ramsey,
A.J. Bouye, D.J. Hayden. The safeties are a little
more of an unknown. They are not new to the
team, but they are new to starting roles for the Today at 1:00 p.m., the Jacksonville Jaguars host
the Kansas City Chiefs.
All of that said, the offseason additions and
discussions and months of analysis is all now in
the past.
Football is back. Enjoy.
