jumped at the opportunity to re-join Foles. In
training camp, Conley fl ashed his ability to get
open deep and it was evident he and Foles had
a chemistry together on and off the fi eld. Let’s
see it move to the game fi eld.
The Jaguars have been trying to fi gure out the
tight end position for a few years now. Now, the
Jaguars are on to Geoff Swaim, a free agent
previously with limited time with the Cowboys,
and a third-round draft pick in Josh Oliver
out of San Jose State who fl ashed at times in
the offseason in the middle of the fi eld in the
passing game. Both Swaim and Oliver have
been injured most of the preseason, but the
Jaguars need both to be ready for the offense
to be at full effectiveness.
Jawaan Taylor was the Jaguars’ second-round
draft pick, and the rookie out of Florida was
quickly plugged in at right tackle. His size and
strength made him the clear choice for the job
after an early-training camp battle. In 2018, the
Jaguars’ offensive line struggled through one
of the most injury-plagued seasons in memory,
and with all front-line players back – now
paired with Taylor on the right side – this needs
to be a group that can control the trenches
and give running back Leonard Fournette the
proper running lanes while also keeping Foles
upright. Having a strong, road-grading right
tackle is big for this offense.
The New - Defense
The Jaguars’ defensive line room was already
stacked with great players: Calais Campbell,
Yannick Ngakoue, Marcell Dareus and Abry
Jones just to name a few. But adding defensive
end Josh Allen with the seventh-overall
pick in the 2019 NFL Draft sends that group
to a different level, one on which defensive
coordinator Todd Wash has created defensive
looks to get more playmakers on the fi eld at the
same time. In Preseason Week 3 against the
Dolphins, Allen turned heads with a four-tackle
performance, including two quarterback hits
and two tackles for loss – while playing as a 4-3
defensive end and in a 3-4 outside linebacker
look. The stats were good, but the eye test was
better. He seems to have a knack to be around
the ball and disturb plays. He will fi t in just fi ne
for a defense that could be among the best in
the NFL when the 2019 season is done.
The Jaguars looked to fi ll the weak-side
linebacker position both in free agency and
in the draft. Coming out of Murray State, the
