Festive Sailors’ Supper, by Helen Jupp
The Yacht Section got Christmas off to a very
merry start at their monthly Sailors’ Supper in
December.
In previous years the dress code had been
Christmas jumpers, but this year sailors were
encouraged to incorporate the Club Burgee into
their festive outfits. And what imaginative outfits
were worn. Lights appeared on headgear,
earrings and jumpers. Did I recognize an East
Cardinal flashing three times? and I think there
were starboard and port hand marks flashing
green and red.
Prizes were awarded to Jill Roberts dressed as
“Elf and Safety” and Simon Benson as …..
Well, I am not sure ….. but see for yourselves.
However there were so many others who
deserved to win.

The Purslows had a multitude of copies of
the Burgee in all different sizes adorning
their persons.
Jean Buttery had given the Cruising in
Company a Christmas beard giving the
flag a whole new look.
Sue Brown must have sent hours creating
an amazing Christmas Tree Hat.
The Christmas fairy, alias Amanda
Pearce, arrived with her magic wand
made from a burgee.
There were at least five elves this year …
did I see Robert King underneath that red
hair?
Please see the Yogile folder for all pictures.
A very jolly evening was enjoyed by over 60
sailors served by our hard working bar staff.
